In the age of digital, literature design is becoming a rare craft. But there will always be a place for the tactile, tangible experience that a book can bring to the table.
WASTED DREAMS & JELLY BEANS
This project was a collaboration between ourselves, Chapter Press, GF Smith paper makers and Novalia who had recently invented an interactive paper that linked up with smartphone technology.
They saw an opportunity to keep the traditional relationship between graphic design and music alive, and wanted to showcase this prototype to the world’s top music executives as a way of delivering physical artwork with all the download convenience of digital.
The book reflected the songwriter’s style and youthful charm with doodle-inspired illustrations depicting the lyrics. With case bound Colourplan stock and foil front and back this was a work of art that could be read and enjoyed time and again. But it had the added bonus of a centre page that could be read by smartphones to download music, interviews and social media pages – a smart take on the traditional record sleeve.
